Why Now is the Perfect Time to Tackle Your To-Do List

Admit it, you’ve got a to-do list that keeps on growing. And it’s probably full of repairs that you keep putting off since nothing is really “broken.” Sorry to say, but the only way to reduce the items on your to-do list is to do them!

While it’s easy to live with appliances that are functioning but still need some TLC, we have some common appliance problems and the top solutions (in order from most to least likely to occur) to get them fixed and off of your list:

Oven Not Baking Evenly

  1. Bake Element: If the bake element doesn’t glow red when the oven is on, then the element isn’t heating
  2. Igniter: An igniter opens the gas valve and ignites the gas in your oven. A defective igniter will take longer to accomplish this, thus causing temperature issues.
  3. Broil Element: The broil element will glow red if it’s heating properly. If it doesn’t, you may need to replace it.
  4. Temperature Sensor: If the temperature sensor is out of calibration, your oven won’t bake evenly. how to test the temperature sensor.
  5. Oven Control Board: Your oven control board may not be reading the sensor resistance correctly and you may need to recalibrate it.

Fridge is Noisy

  1. Fan Blade: If your refrigerator seems noisier when the door is open, it could be either a faulty evaporator or condenser fan blade.
  2. Evaporator Fan Motor: If it’s not the blade but it’s noisier when the door is open, it could be the evaporator fan motor instead.
  3. Condenser Fan Motor: The condenser fan motor is usually under the fridge near the back and may have something stuck in it.
  4. Compressor: Check the compressor. If the noise is coming from there, it’ll need to be replaced – by a licensed technician.
  5. Water Inlet Valve: If the noise happens when the ice maker is filling up, the problem could be the water inlet valve.

Dishwasher Not Drying Dishes

  1. Vent: Dishwashers use a vent to let out the hot, steamy air. If it’s not opening correctly there’ll be moisture left on your dishes.
  2. Vent Fan Motor: The vent fan motor is used to help dry dishes at the end of the cycle. If it’s not working right, your dishes will stay wet.
  3. Heating Element: Your dishwasher may use a heating element to dry dishes. If it’s broken, your dishes won’t dry.
