Most Frequent Causes for Oven door won’t unlock/locks intermittently

For the most accurate results, enter your model number.

Cause 1Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

During the oven's self-cleaning cycle, the door lock switch activates the door lock motor to prevent the oven door from being opened. If the door lock motor and switch assembly is defective, the oven door will not unlock once the self-cleaning cycle is complete or may only lock intermittently. You can use a multimeter to test the motor and switch assembly for electrical continuity. If the door lock motor and switch assembly does not test positive for continuity, the assembly should be replaced.

Parts
Cause 2Door Switch

A defective door switch may prevent the oven door from unlocking or only locking intermittently. If you can't hear the door lock motor running when the self-clean button is pressed, use a multimeter to test the door switch for electrical continuity. If the door switch does not test positive for continuity when the plunger is pressed, the component should be replaced.

Parts
Cause 3Door Latch

If the door lock motor does not test positive for electrical continuity, it's possible the door latch is defective. Inspect the latch for damage. You can also use a multimeter to test the latch assembly's microswitch, if applicable, to determine if the switch has appropriate electrical continuity. If the latch is damaged or the microswitch tests negative for continuity, the door latch should be replaced.

Parts
Cause 4Touchpad

If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible that the touchpad is defective and unable to properly control the door lock motor. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the touchpad requires replacement.

Parts
Cause 5Control Panel

If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible that a control panel component is defective and the panel is unable to properly control the door lock motor. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the control panel requires replacement.

Parts
Cause 6User Control and Display Board

If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible that the user control and display board is defective and unable to properly control the door lock motor. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the user control and display board requires replacement.

Parts
Cause 7Control Board

The control board is responsible to for sending voltage to all of the oven's electrical components. If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible the control board is defective. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the control board is faulty and requires replacement.

Parts
Cause 8Main Control Board

The main control board is responsible to for sending voltage to all of the oven's electrical components. If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible the main control board is defective. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the control board is faulty and requires replacement.

Parts
Cause 9Oven Control Board

The oven control board is responsible to for sending voltage to all of the oven's electrical components. If the door lock motor tests appropriately for electrical continuity, but the oven door still won't unlock or locks intermittently, it's possible the oven control board is defective. To help determine this, you can test for voltage reaching the door lock motor. If no voltage is reaching the motor, it's likely the control board is faulty and requires replacement.
