Cause 1Drain Hose

The drain hose might be kinked or clogged. First check to make sure the drain hose is not kinked between the humidifier and the drain source. If the drain hose is not kinked, then it might be clogged. Unclog the drain hose by removing it from the drain pan and blowing compressed air through it to clear the obstruction.

Parts
Cause 2Water Panel Distribution Tray

On flow-through style humidifiers, a water panel distribution tray rests on top of the wick filter or water evaporator pad to channel the incoming water through the filter or pad. If the distribution tray is clogged with mineral deposits or damaged, the incoming water can easily overflow. Inspect the water panel distribution tray for obstructions or damage and replace with a new one if necessary.

Parts
Cause 3Filter Holder

On some flow-through style humidifiers, a filter holder secures the top of the wick filter or water evaporator pad and channels the incoming water through the filter or pad. If the filter holder is clogged with mineral deposits or damaged, the incoming water can easily overflow. Inspect the filter holder for obstructions or damage and replace with a new one if necessary.

Parts
Cause 4Water Evaporator Pad

Flow-through style humidifiers channel the water through a vertical water evaporator pad. If the water evaporator pad is clogged with calcium or other mineral deposits, the water will ride along the top of the pad and drip down outside of the water collection tray at the bottom. If water does not exit properly check the water evaporator pad and replace as needed.

Parts
Cause 5Drip Tray

On flow-through style humidifiers, a water drip tray rests on top of the wick filter or water evaporator pad to channel the incoming water through the filter or pad. If the drip tray is clogged with mineral deposits or damaged, the incoming water can easily overflow. Inspect the drip tray for obstructions or damage and replace with a new one if necessary.

Parts
Cause 6Drain Pan

The outlet of the humidifier drain pan may be clogged with mineral deposits. To clear the drain outlet the front panel or housing can be removed to access the port to the drain hose. Use a straightened paper clip to gently clear the deposits from the pan outlet. In some cases, the pan can be removed from the unit for clearing & cleaning.

Parts
Cause 7Float

A drum style humidifier will use a float to regulate the amount of water entering the humidifier. When the tray fills with water to a certain point, the float will rise up and shut off the water. A damaged float may not be able to shut off the water, resulting in the humidifier overflowing. Inspect the float to determine if it is obstructed or damaged and replace if necessary.
