Amana Microwave Door Won't Open

A microwave door not opening is often caused by a bent or damaged door hook or latch or a broken door spring. For some models, these components can not be replaced separately and you will need to install a new door assembly to fix the problem.

The microwave switch holder is the component that houses the door switches behind the control panel. If the switch holder is damaged or misaligned, the door may have trouble opening. You will need to uninstall the control panel and inspect the switch holder to confirm it is in good condition and secured properly. Replace the switch holder with a new one if necessary.

The door hook engages with the door latch to keep the door closed during operation. Since the door hook is made of plastic, it can break due to regular wear. If the door hook is broken, it won’t release the door properly, preventing the door from opening. If the door hook is broken, replace it.

The button spring is located on the inside of the door open button. If the spring is broken, replace it.

The door open button might have a broken internal component. If the button is broken, replace the button.

The handle actuator is connected between the door open button and the door latch assembly. Since the handle actuator is made of plastic, it can break from normal wear. If the handle actuator is broken, replace it.
